We have backyard chickens. One November Saturday morning, I heard a screeching and the sound of breaking glass and my 10 year old had punched out the back window because a hawk was hovering above the yard deciding which or our chickens was going to be dinner.
So we got the his hand cleaned up (minor cut) and he kept talking about that evil hawk. I mentioned to him that if one of our chickens would have been caught, it would have been a minor little celebration for the hawk family wouldn't it? You could really see the idea set in his mind. Circle of life. Not always pretty.

Like you said, the circle of life is not always pretty. I'm reminded of this video where a family is releasing a wild baby bunny back into the wild.

Petrified. That would be dead on with me as well.
I literally lifted my feet off the floor while watching it, just in case there was a snake hiding under the couch.
